Yesterday I saw you with the T-shirt walking around dance fans.cultu.be and your partner drew me to it. Curious as I am I opened this site and saw ......
Unimaginable amount of information collected during the last 25 years dancing in the broadest sense. I am very impressed by the vast amount of information. Congratulations, I want to say with this site and that this information is available to everyone now.
You must be a great big dance fan to make this happen.
Greetings, Ton

Thank you for having my grandfather Paul "Hucklebuck" Williams' song The Hucklebuck on your site.

The Hucklebuck was not the only dance song my grandfather recorded. He has a three volume CD set. Paul Williams The Complete Recordings. Take a listen to a few of the songs on his Youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/user/PaulHucklebuckWms. He Has a website www.PaulHucklebuckWilliams.com.

Thank you

Sincerely,

Lisa Y. Williams,
granddaughter

Hello,

What a fantastic site this is, it has brought me a lot of clarity!
I am now in the fourth year of ballroom dancing. In addition, I now had a salsa lesson at another place. Since a world opened up for me: the man shows by arm movements what only I have to do. Therefore we can do all kinds of moves one after another with no fixed pattern. Is that in various dances of Latin and ballroom possible also? Whether it is always as we learned a set patterns of steps behind each other? A whisk is a whisk, I understand, but must it always on a permanent place in the whole pattern? Are there any dance schools where you will also learn to dance 'flexible'?

Sincerely,

Andrea B

It would be sad if you always had to dance the same pattern of the same figures. It immediately becomes different when you dance with someone from another dance school.
Of course, and you can vary. The man is leading the dance. And like salsa also in ballroom and latin you can combine all possible (pieces of) steps. If he only it shows clear and in time.

But to learn moves for many people it’s easy to follow always the same pattern. Once you know these moves, experimenting is more fun than ever recite the same poem.
But so it mainly depends of the leading man. and his leadership. Maybe you can sometimes dance with someone else? A partner swap?

How does a man show this? Should he tell what he wants (me) to do, or by arm movements. I'm very curious how that is done. I still cannot really find out whether there are general dancing nights. Only at my own dancing school, but not like salsa parties where salsa is danced throughout the country.

For Latin it is very similar to salsa to initiate a figure. As lady you feel which move he shows in e.g., disco or chachacha? At least that should be the case ...
In ballroom your frame (shoulders and arms) and the direction of the bodies with respect to the line of dance determine which move comes. Also pelvic and / or abdominal contact provide guidance.
In most dance schools this is also explainde. Also how to feel the difference between two similar figures.

Thank you for your comprehensive answer. I think it's really unfortunate that we have no explanation for that. I'm going to see if we might work with at another dance school. Because I think it's a loss. It feels like you still cannot really dance, because you can only do the learned sequence. Thanks!

Dear dance fan,
What a beautiful site.
Lots of information, what a job!

I almost dare not ask but is it also possible to view the full list sorted by artist name e.g.
We host a party and turn taking hits from a Defined. Year. Now we want some numbers to know which dance matches. How can we have it easily?
Thanks!

Dineke

hay,

You can copy the lists Dance Fans and paste it in e.g.Excel. (Also several lists together. They have the same structure.) There you can create your own sortings or selections.

My skills and knowledge is unfortunately limited to such build such possibilities also on the site.

I'm looking for patterns to make ballroom dresses myself?
I am following currently a sewing course and I myself am a ballroom dancer, and yet I'm not sure where to start looking for patterns!
Would you know how to proceed?

Greetings
Ann

You can try with the Burda December, which contains a lot of party dresses.
Or ask the textile trade, which typically have (books with) patterns.
