Going to dance has also changed quite over time. From few times a year a spring- or harvest festival, over a gala at the court and a prom, to the disco era with every weekend dance venue until the early hours.

For centuries dance was an opportunity to meet potential partners. And to make that run safely and smoothly for everyone there grew rituals to invite a partner and to lead her to the dance. Appropriate clothing and suitable dance moves helped lead the party in the right direction.

It may now be all less formal. But a minimum of courtesy and respect for each other is certainly still valued.
