In Anglicization of his name in 1773 Nicholas becomes Sant a Claus. In 1809 in the book "A History of New York' by Washington Irving the waist of Santa considerably broadened. Santa Claus is now a pot-bellied pipe smoker instead of a good-hearted bishop.
In the poem "A Visit from Saint Nicholas" (known as "The Night Before Christmas") by Clement Clarke Moore in 1823 Santa Claus gets a magical sleigh with reindeer and a sack full of toys. In 1930 he was awarded by an advertising campaign for Coca-Cola to his final appearance. Illustrator Haddon Sundblom gave him dressed in red Christmas white fur trim and leather boots.
In 1822, the reindeer were given names: Blitzen, Comet, Cupid, Dancer, Dasher, Donner, Prancer and Vixen. Robert L. May launched around 1939, the ninth reindeer, Rudolf, a first by others bullied gain that with his glowing red nose lit the way.
