The Moulin Rouge (French for "red mill") is a cabaret in Paris. It is located in the red light district of Pigalle quartier, in the 18th arrondissement.

MoulinRougeIt was opened on October 6, 1889. On the roof of the cabaret is a large red imitation windmill. The Moulin Rouge is a symbol of the bohemian. It is famous or infamous for the nude breasts in the shows. It attracts thousands of tourists and has been imitated worldwide.

The cabaret was the inspiration for many paintings by Henri de Toulouse- Lautrec and poster designs by Jules Cheret, among others. Many books and films are set in and around the nightclub. In 1940 a feature film Moulin Rouge came out with Josephine Baker, and in 2001 Moulin Rouge!, with Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman in the lead roles.
